TROPEA BEACHES

WHAT TO SEE IN ITALY

BEACH IN ITALY: THE BEACHEAS OF TROPEA

A white sandy coastline, with incredibly clear waters and
clear waters and seabed visible even at considerable depths.
the foot of the cliff on which the town is built.
This is the beach of Rotonda, bordered by the S. Leonardo rock, beyond which stretches the small and quiet beach of
Cannone
, hidden behind the jetty of the tourist port.
harbour. Beyond the small island of Santa Maria - with the suggestive Marina dell'Isola beach
beach in the inlet at the foot of the rock - the long beach of Linguata is loved by divers.
Linguata is loved by divers for its crystal-clear sea and beautiful seabed,
covered in the first few metres by a flat, compact rock. No less attractive
are the small coves that open up between the rocks. The Convent Beach
- so called because of an ancient convent above it - has white sand,
interrupted on the shoreline by small pebbles polished by the sea.

LIDO DEL NONNO

"VOLU DU CURVARU" BEACH

PIETRA MULINU

The first in the municipality of Tropea on the south side, immediately after Baia di Riaci di S. Domenica di Ricadi. It is so called because from the cliff above it, overlooking the sea, the crows that nest there launch themselves into flight. But the other peculiarity of this view is the presence of traces of the excavations made by skilled stonemasons from nearby towns to obtain the millstones.

This beautiful cliff is so called because in antiquity there was a natural quarry in this very area, where the stonemasons with enormous patience and even greater effort, using their ancient knowledge, carved the stone wheels, which were used for the oil mills and the mills of the nearby hamlets.

This sandy beach is right next to the northern entrance gate to the Port of Tropea and is exactly at the end of the harbour road called Raf Vallone.
It is a beautiful free beach, but also a lido equipped with a bar and restaurant called Lido del Nonno.

MARE PICCOLO

LE ROCCETTE

The beach of Mare Piccolo is located immediately after the Roccette beach and is certainly the best known corner of Tropea beach in the world. It is totally free. It can be reached, as for the Roccette beach.

This tiny sandy beach is easily reached from the southern entrance to the port and is located before the large pier. It is so called because a seventeenth-century cannon was found in the waters in front of the beach and then placed in a small square at the end of Largo Galluppi, in the heart of Tropea's historic centre.

This is by far the most famous beach in Tropea, clearly visible from the many overlooks on the town cliff. At the beginning of this beach is the San Leonardo rock, so called because it seems that there was once a small church dedicated to the saint at the top.

U PALUMBARU

A LINGUATA

MARI GRANDI

The cavity called "Grutta 'u Palumbàru", located at the base of the famous Scoglio di Santa Maria dell'Isola in the municipality of Tropea (VV) has been included in the lists of the Catasto delle Grotte della Calabria". The cavity originated through a marked rectilinear fracture within a soft sandstone: 28 metres long and 10 metres high on average, it crosses the aforementioned Rock from side to side and in winter, during sea storms, is largely invaded by the waters of the nearby coastline.

A linguata (tongue-shaped beach) is located south of the rock dedicated to S.Maria dell'isola, behind it. It is a very beautiful sandy beach with unique colours. Behind the rock, the beach ends in a small grotto known as the Linguata grotto, which leads to the Palumbaro grotto. It is totally free. You can arrive, as for the previous beach, by car from the seafront, on foot from the steps of the historic centre (largo Galluppi, largo Duomo or Piazza Cannone).

MARI GRANDI or BIG SEA is one of the largest beaches in Tropea and is all sandy. It is located close to the Marina dell'Isola promenade (an extension of the previous stretch), and is so called because it is larger than the other beach located a little further north, called Mari Picciulu(SMALL SEA)

PASSU DU CAVALERI (knight's pass)

U SAPUNI

SPIAGGIA OCCHIALI

U Sapuni beach, so called because of the large rock in the middle which, according to the fishermen, seems to be a bar of soap, can be reached by sea or on foot following the coastline from Passu du Cavaleri beach. Or from the nearby steps of the Carabinieri car park in Tropea, located in Via Campo Inferiore.

The Occhiali beach is located between U Sapuni and Petri i Mulinu. It can be reached from the steps of the Carabinieri car park, located in Via Campo Inferiore in Tropea. It can also be reached by sea with rubber dinghies and pedalos. The name is linked to the figure of two holes, above the beach, which are shaped like glasses. The area is one of sandstone cliffs, common in this part of the coast. There are no services of any kind. To find it, refer to the B&B il Palombaro.

This beach is so called because of a legend that tells of a knight who, while chasing a nymph, fell from the top of the cliff with his horse onto the beach below. It is a large beach that starts at Lido Alex and ends at the southern cliff of Tropea, near the hotel rocca nettuno. The beach is completely sandy and is partly free and partly occupied by numerous bathing establishments offering various services.  It can be accessed from various points along the seafront.

CONVENT BEACH

it is a very beautiful sandy beach with unique colours.
