WHAT TO SEE IN ITALY

WHAT TO SEE IN ITALY:
MOUNTAIN ITINERARY

MONTALTO

Montalto is the highest peak in the Aspromonte chain (1955 metres). On the summit you will find a Christ the Redeemer that also serves as a lightning rod, twice destroyed by the same lightning. The statue was hoisted in 1900 in the Jubilee year. At its side is a spectacular wind rose placed by the GEA (Gruppo escursionistico Aspromontano) in 1994, indicating all the various destinations in Italy and abroad. From the top of the summit, on a spectacularly clear day, you can admire Sicily and the Aeolian Islands. To carry out this excursion (Montalto cristo redentore) there is an 80 m difference in height uphill, but here you can appreciate a breathtaking view. Please wear closed walking shoes, duration of the excursion 1 hour round trip with stop. The hike is of the T tourist type and does not require any physical training.
