This town, whose first settlement dates back to the fourth century BC by the Italics, is one of the few historical cities still hidden and little visited.
Here you can still admire a past life, a mysterious life, far from the eyes of the modern tourist.
Ancient Oppido came to a catastrophic halt on 5 February 1783 at 07:30 a.m. a very strong tremor of magnitude 11 on the mercalli scale destroyed a large part of southern Calabria. It killed 50,000 people and drastically changed the morphology of the territory.
Today you can admire the ruins of this great city that had more than 4,000 inhabitants, a past life that has remained impressed and sculpted in the stones of Oppido Antica.

on the way back from oppido we can visit the beautiful cathedral of oppido dedicated to Maria ss dell' annunziata and the diocesan museum of Oppido mammertina.
13:00 lunch at the restaurant La Pergola of Varapodio
3:00 p.m. visit to the BErgarte handicraft laboratory, the only laboratory where the peel of the Bergamot, a citrus fruit typical of Calabria, is processed, from which majestic souvenirs are obtained.
